![]() structural or foundational damage from chipmunk burrows.Though chipmunks are small, they can be quite destructive - especially when burrowing near a home's foundation. Females also have a mating call for which they use their high-pitched, bird-like vocalizations. Communication: Chipmunks are protective of their burrows and use a range of loud chirps as well as body language to express occupied territory, dominance, or warn their young of danger.Hoarding: To prepare for the winter hibernation period, chipmunks begin to stockpile nuts and seeds in their burrows during late summer and early fall.Oftentimes chipmunk burrows cause damage when dug next to a home foundation Burrows are typically dug directly underneath or next to cover, because a chipmunk always requires protection from predators. Burrowing: Chipmunks dig their own pairs of burrows, excavating as deep as 3 feet underground.Reproduction: Breeding occurs twice per year - once in the spring and once in the summer - when chipmunks give birth to 4-5 babies at a time.Chipmunks remain in their deep burrow systems during the winter, where they enter patterns of torpor (deep sleep and lower body temperature) interrupted by periods of feeding. Activity: Chipmunks are active in the daytime during spring, summer and fall. Some favorite foods include: Chipmunk Behavior Their diets are more diverse during the warmer months, during which time they hoard nuts and seeds in their burrows to eat in the winter. Chipmunk DietĬhipmunks are omnivores, dining on various types of foods that are found mostly on the ground. Chipmunks rarely venture further than 1/3 mile from their burrows at any time. They dig two types of burrows: shallow burrows in which they seek refuge while foraging during the day, and deeper, more complex burrows where they nest, store food and spend most of the winter months. While the ideal habitat for chipmunks is a deciduous forest, woodland or brushland, they’re also comfortable in other areas that provide sufficient cover such as urban parks, fence lines, hedges and houses.Ĭhipmunks dig extensive burrow systems directly underneath or next to natural or manmade cover. Chipmunk HabitatĬhipmunks feel most at home in areas with plenty of ground cover, including logs, trees, stumps, shrubs and rocks. The Siberian chipmunk is the only species that is found outside of North America - its range extends throughout northern Asia, from central Russia to Japan. ![]() Western chipmunks inhabit the western states as well as most of Canada. ![]() ![]() The graphics card For little money, the NVIDIA GTX 650 can get you a long way. It didn’t have a hard drive, but even with that caveat, it was the best deal I could find-a hard drive is a pretty cheap addition. I found a few contenders here in the San Diego area where I live, but eventually went with a Craigslisted Dell Optiplex 9010 that hit all my requirements for only $50. That sounds like a lot of caveats, but as you browse through the shelves at the e-waste center (or through photos on Craigslist), you’ll be able to spot these things pretty quickly. (There are 8-pin to 24-pin adapters out there, but I’m hesitant to use power supply adapters like these since many are cheaply or incorrectly made.) It isn’t strictly necessary-many people will be just fine with the included power supply and a low-power graphics card like I’ll be using here-but it’s nice to have the option in the future. ![]() Some of these office PCs use a smaller, non-standard 8-pin power connector, which means you won’t be able to upgrade your power supply in the future. But if you’re planning on adding a bit more power to this build, you may want to narrow your search to models that use a standard 24-pin power socket on the motherboard. If you’re just building a cheap PC to get you by until you can build a new, high-end rig in a few months, you don’t need to worry too much about compatibility with future upgrades. You’re looking for something that, ideally, has a second-generation Intel Core i5 processor (in which the four-digit number after i5 starts with a 2) or newer processor-an i3 might get you by, but avoid Core 2 Quads and other lower-end CPUs if you can.įinally, think about your upgrade plans for this machine. ![]() If you can find a Lenovo, HP, or Compaq machine with similar specs for a good price, you can use those too, but they’re a bit harder to come by. There are a few different types of office-oriented PCs out there, but the Dell Optiplex is one of the more common and the one I’d recommend for this conversion. The tower You’ve basically saved this poor PC tower from endlessly running Excel. My goal was to build something for only $100 (because hey, I like a challenge), but I’ll lay out parts in a few different price ranges for those who have more to spend. (We’re assuming you already have a general idea of what goes into building a gaming PC-if you don’t, you should definitely become acquainted with our PC building guide first.) Lay out your budget, figure out which computer parts will fit into it, then start your hunt. And since “Gaming” doesn’t just mean playing the latest graphical behemoths on launch day, you can also dig further back to classic masterpieces on stores like GOG.com.Īs with any PC build, it helps to plan things out before you actually go shopping. Of course, you’ll also be able to grab games from a couple years ago during a Steam sale and play them without much issue, for super cheap. (If you run into any trouble, though, YouTube channel LowSpecGamer has a lot of tricks for playing newer games below the minimum system requirements.) It doesn’t look like much now, but with a little love, this baby will help you win hundreds of battles. Depending on the upgrades you make, higher-end games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider might be playable if you’re willing to turn the resolution down to 720p. It will, however, handle a lot of lower-requirement esports titles like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, Fortnite, Overwatch, and Rocket League. Even with a few upgrades, a low-end PC such as the Dell Optiplex I found won’t be playing all the latest triple-A titles at high resolutions with beautiful, ray-traced graphics. Before you start hunting for hardware, you’ll need to set your expectations. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Sync folder works just like any other folder, and provides the following features: Files in the Sync folder are backed up to the cloud automatically. ![]() ![]() Let’s be clear here- this is just another one of those, based on what I’ve seen. Since Cyberpunk made the jump from subgenre to subculture some time around the end of the Cold War, people have been suggesting, arguing, and misinterpreting just what the accompanying fashion consists of. If they think you’re technical, go crude” “If they think you’re crude, go technical. Just a time capsule of teenage observations through mirror-tinted glasses. This is entirely the extent of it’s role now I think- there is no deep underlying philosophy here, no movement. As I was about 19 when I wrote this, it’s very concerned with trying to develop a taxonomy for some kind of fashion ecosystem. In the case of cyberpunk art, it may depend on how you define it, but in general, cyberpunk art is about the technology.I wrote this guide sometime in 2012, just before it seems everyone suddenly realized we were living in a previously obscure, very concerning subset of science fiction originating in the 1980s. All of these things are all connected, and are all considered as part of the same thing. A cyberpunk art can be either a conceptual art, or a formal art.Ĭyberpunk art isn’t just about cyber-punk, it’s also about all the things that cyber-punk has to offer, the technology, aesthetics, and the society. The things that are considered as cyberpunk art are the things that are considered as art in the first place, but unlike modern art, which is considered only as art, cyberpunk art is often considered art in itself. It actually has a lot of similarities with modern art. The concept of a cyberpunk art is to help a person think outside the box of his creative process, and to look at the world, and that doesn’t mean that all the art of that genre will actually be a thing. In a recent article about the concept of cyberpunk art, I looked into the concept of cyberpunk art, which is, like, a thing that is a genre of art. It is a lot harder to put on a good show for a cyberpunk game, and for a lot of people it is a bit of a burden to take the “art” way too seriously. I’m certainly aware that there are a lot of bad artists out there, but I also see the value in it. ![]() I think art that takes itself more seriously, like cyberpunk art, is a great trend for the industry, no question. It is a genre that is still very much in flux, so it’s important to note that cyberpunk is a genre that is still evolving and changing. A lot of the early cyberpunk games took place in or near the Cold War, which is why I think it’s such an important part of the genre.Ĭyberpunk is a subgenre of science fiction that focuses on the dystopian future, where society is broken down into separate human, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine subgroups, with each of these groups having their own unique culture and customs. ![]() Cyberpunk is probably the first subgenre to be fully introduced to the gaming world. In the trailer, you can see the human element being the most important element, which is a refreshing change from most games.Īs cyberpunk is an art form and genre that is heavily influenced by the history of the sci-fi genre, I think it is important to note that cyberpunk has been around for a very long time. It’s cool that this will be the first game in a cyberpunk setting, but I think that as the genre grows in popularity, and more and more people become aware of it, things tend to get a bit more abstract. It’s about the complex, human nature that has to be depicted and that we’re all in control of. ![]() I don’t know if I liked the whole concept of the trailer, but I did appreciate the idea of how cyberpunk art can be so much more than just a collection of cool images. It’s still very much in place, but it includes a bit of a plot twist and a more in-depth background information. This trailer was designed to be as clear as possible for those who don’t have any confidence in their own self-awareness. It’s also a lot about self awareness and how we all need to accept the complexity of the world around us and our own thoughts. It’s about a man and his work, and his experiences with the internet and the art it spawned. I think this is a more appropriate title for the show by David Lynch. ![]() ![]() ![]() Moreover, our developers and template designers are going to expand the catalog as much as possible. In town, subways are safe, well located and astoundingly punctual. Then board one of the limited-express trains that run fairly often on the Keisei line. The rock-bottom method is to take a bus, at $1.25, for a six-minute ride to the Narita airport rail station. If you do not have many bags, you might want to try a more adventurous route. Total cost from Narita to one's hotel: about $30. But if you insist on taking a taxi, beware of the few hustlers who try to steer newcomers to their cabs away from the regular line. The ride to most central Tokyo hotels costs about $130. Getting Aroundĭo not even look at the taxi stand on arrival at the main international airport in Narita. Think of that as money saved right from the start. Tipping, in almost all situations in Japan, is neither encouraged nor expected. Few things will come cheaply, but it is possible to visit without surrendering one's wallet at the immigration counter. (Do not even consider the double- and triple-digit prices of the rarefied expense-account bars and clubs in the Ginza and other entertainment districts.) None of this, however, is intended to suggest that the budget-conscious traveler must avoid Japan. In Tokyo, the $5 cup of coffee is routine, and one can spend $8 for a thin slice of melon in a restaurant, $10 for a movie ($14.50 for reserved seats, which are available), $3.10 for the drop of the taxi meter and $7 for a shot of house-brand Scotch at most hotel bars. Many people might not consider that a back-breaking price, but it has moved beyond my definition of a terrific deal. As a small example, there is a hole-in-the-wall tempura restaurant near my office with a fine fixed-price lunch for 1,000 yen. The exchange rate has thrown the most minor facets of daily life out of kilter. Last Monday, when the exchange rate was 155 yen to the dollar, it required $15.50 to buy that item. Last year one needed $10 to buy a 2,400-yen item. And it is no secret that Japan was short on bargains to begin with. The dollar's relentless decline, to a record low of about 150 yen to the dollar, has meant that prices for American travelers in Japan are about 60 percent higher than a year ago. It is hard to discuss Tokyo prices these days without sounding like an alarmist, but hard-gulp reality is that the situation has become awful. ![]() |
